Guest: Kaylin McFarren @4Kaylin #RomFantasy

A brief interview with the author:

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I could pick up a pencil and put two sentences together. While in college, I minored in English and for the past twenty years, I’ve led PR/marketing efforts for several companies within my family's international conglomerate. As director of a fine art gallery, I assisted in furthering the careers of numerous visual artists through promotional opportunities in national publications. However, after seven years, I was eager to spread my creative wings and elected to steer my energy toward writing novels.

How long have you been a published author?

My first book was published in 2010, so an accurate answer would be close to four years.

What titles do you have available?

Flaherty’s Crossing, Severed Threads…and now Buried Threads

What made you choose the subject of this book?

For more than forty years, I’ve been fascinated with the arts and culture of Japan and have been fortunate in being able to travel across Asian with my family on numerous trips. Due to my husband’s business interests and roots stemming from Japan, I’ve had the remarkable opportunity to develop personal, long-term relationships with Asian shipping agents, politicians, company executives, sword masters, puppeteers, religious leaders and talented geikos and maikos who reside and perform in Kyoto’s Gion District. But to be honest, my fascination with the Japanese underworld truly inspired me to write this story.

Do you have any new titles coming soon?  Will you be venturing into the area of fiction anytime soon?

The third and final installment in the Threads series, Banished Threads, which like my other books, easily stands alone. The premise for this next story is as follows: While enjoying a much-earned vacation in England, Rachel Lyons and Chase Cohen are introduced to a secret mystical society by her jet-setting uncle and shortly after, a collection of priceless Morris Graves’ paintings turns up missing. Drawn into the mystery, the lovers and their salvage crew take up residence at the Lyons’ stately manor. However, acquiring the cooperation of locals and trust of the maligning brotherhood seems improvable, convincing Rachel to end their involvement – until she discovers the secret her uncle has been harboring for years.

What is your favourite genre and why?

Romantic suspense…perhaps that’s why I write in it. I love building tension and drama, growing suspicion and twisting the plot along with delving into complicated relationships.

What, to you, is the most exciting part of the writing process?

Finishing the last word and sitting back in my chair feeling accomplished. It’s great getting literary awards, mind you, but there’s nothing better than realizing you stuck it out through thick and thin, despite every interruption or trips that called you away, and managed to bring your story full circle.

If you could co-author a book with anyone, who would you choose and why?

Jodi Picoult. I love her stories and the boundaries she pushes with each of her books, which are often controversial. She can turn a phrase like no one else.

Rachel’s mouth sagged. “You mean you’re really a monk? But how’s that possible? You’re not even wearing a robe, and your hair…”

He simply smiled.
